Question:

I've never used acrylics but having watched Fraser Scarfe on catch-up today I'm inspired to try. My question is can you paint directly onto the canvas or do you have to treat the board before beginning? Somehow at the back of my mind I remember the word Gesso [or similar ] but not sure if that were for Acrylic or Oils.

Gesso is a primer used to prime a raw canvas to create a support for Acrylic and Oils. Most Artists Canvases are available already primed and offer a great support for oils, acrylics and mixed media.
