What is the difference between Aquaboard and claybord ?
Thank you for your enquiry.
The Ampersand Panels are available in cradled uncradled formats they are archival, acid free eco-friendly and made in the USA.
Ampersand Aquabord (formally known as Claybord Textured) has a textured clay surface that absorbs watercolours like a fine watercolour paper but allows colour to be lifted back to white. It is uniquely absorbent and is perfect for watercolours and gouache but is also ideal for casein and acrylics. It will not tear, shrink or buckle even under heavy water application.
It makes it much better for watercolour, giving it a more watercolour paper surface.
Ampersand Claybord is a different surface.it is more for acrylics, gouache, etc. and is much smoother. Made from a kaolin clay ground formula similar in paint ability to the clay gesso grounds used during the Renaissance. The surface is sanded to an ULTRA-smooth, highly absorbent finish.
