The SAA Artists of the Year 2011 is now open for entries. The closing date for entries is 25th February 2011. All entrants including the chosen finalists, will be notified by 27th May 2011. Selected original winning painting must be available to be exhibited at a major exhibition in the UK. There is no limit to the number of entries.

All work must be original to the entrant. It must be recent (no earlier than 2008) unpublished work of the submitting artist. It MUST NOT be a copy of any other person's work, article or photograph.

Prizes & Awards

Entry is FREE to SAA members so join now and enter as many paintings as you like. Entry costs for non SAA members is £7.50 per entry. There is a special students price of only £3.50 per entry (students may only enter as Young or Junior).

First prize is £2000 (£1000 cash and £1000 in art materials). Plus £500 worth of art materials to the art club, group or school of the winner's choice.

Open to all artists of all abilities from beginner to professional, child to OAP. The SAA Artist of the Year competition attracts entries from all over the world and has helped many artists with their careers. Enter to promote yourself or just for fun. Previous winners have included paintings from Malta, New Zealand, Oman, Brazil, Norway, USA and many other countries including of course the UK.

  1. Best Portrait or Figure - £100 worth of art materials
  2. Best Abstract or Experimental Art - £100 worth of art materials
  3. Best Still Life - £100 worth of art materials
  4. Best Flowers or Gardens - £100 worth of art materials
  5. Best Landscape or Woodland Scene - £100 worth of art materials.
  6. Best Building, Townscape or Industrial Scene - £100 worth of art materials
  7. Best Waterscape, Boats or Seascape - £100 worth of art materials
  8. Best Animal or Wildlife - £100 worth of art materials
  9. Best Vehicle or Transport - £100 worth of art materials

    The category winners are chosen from all paintings hung in that category. e.g. Best Portrait or Figure is from all portraits by all abilities.
Certificates for all the above winners plus 30 runners up. e.g. Best Amateur Portrait etc.
Selected artists will have the rare opportunity to see their work at a major exhibition in the UK.

All entries and artwork must be submitted as good quality photographs or colour photocopies (no larger than A3), original paintings cannot be accepted. If you are not an SAA member please remember to enclose your payment (Non members £7.50 per entry and a Special Students price of only £3.50 per entry, students may only enter as Young or Junior). No responsibility will be taken for any entries and no entry will be returned, please keep a copy for your records.
  • All artwork must be recent (no earlier than 2008) unpublished work of the submitting artist. It MUST NOT be a copy of any other person's work, article or photograph.
  • E-mail entries are only open to SAA members and are acceptable in JPEG format no larger than 100kb per image. With only one picture per email. Please email to aoy@saa.co.uk with full details included in each covering e-mail. Mark the e-mail subject as AOY2010 with your status and painting subject. It should look like this in the email subject: AOY2010 Amateur Landscape or Woodland Scene.
  • Entrants must determine their own status from Professional, Amateur, Beginner (painting for less than 2 years at time of entry), Young (under 25 at time of entry) and Junior (under 16 at time of entry).
  • DO NOT ENCLOSE ANYTHING ELSE WITH YOUR ENTRY.
  • Entries will not be acknowledged or returned.
  • If your entry is chosen your original work must be available for final judging.

    - Full Artist name
    - Full postal address

    - Age (if under 25)
    - Title of painting
    - Medium (e.g. Watercolour, acrylic, etc)
    - Category
    - Size including frame in centimetres (cm)
  • Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
