Pastel pencils are notoriously difficult to sharpen as the soft core can be susceptible to breaking in a sharpener.
This is why some people chose to use a craft knife to sharpen a pastel pencil and then use a sand paper to create a fine point.
With pastel pencils the key is to sharpen gently and slowly.
We have had a lot of success using the Derwent Super Point Mini Manual Helical Sharpener, this will sharpen to a nice long point. Again, you need to use gently and ensure that you clean the blade regularly. We have used these at shows to sharpen pastel pencils for workshops.
