  • Description

Although we do not have a tutor, we help each other in a friendly and relaxed way. This formula has worked extremely well for over 20 years. Following a brief history of tutoring our founder members decided to continue independent of a tutor and many of our later members have joined without previous experience - just a desire to learn to draw and/or paint.

8th March 2017 - Joel Kirk. Acrylic. Fascinating demonstration with a second visit the following week to reveal the finished commissioned painting.

    9th November 2016 - Watercolour. Bill Newton

24th February 2016 - Judy Goring Workshop. Watercolour. Line & Wash.

14th October 2015 - Brian Coppard. Watercolour and gouache on Pastel paper.

21 May 2014 - another workshop evening with Judy Goring. This time we used black charcoal on white paper and chalk on black paper. A media new to most of us and a fascinating evening with a talented tutor. Fuller report on Click on Groups then Roche Art Group.

March 2014 - Sheila Appleton (Oil/acrylic) and Ian Smith (acrylic)well known artists in the Leigh-on-Sea Essex area.

May 2013 - Caroline Stevens - Oil demonstration "the Bob Ross way."

November 2012. A second visit by Paul Karslake who enthralled us again with his airbrush technique. This time he produced a portrait of John Wayne completed in just under one hour.

March 2012 - oil pastel workshop with Judy Goring a most talented and motivating art teacher.

January 2012: A "critique" evening with Paul Alcock. Paul was invited to our Group to assess and give guidance on our selected paintings. Each member brought along at least one painting for his consideration and his experienced eye gave everyone much to consider. Paul is an established tutor (based in Essex) and more details of his own work and classes can be found at Also see

Sept 2011: We thoroughly enjoyed a demonstration by JAMES MERRIOTT (watercolourist) and an interesting article and pictures of the evening can be viewed at
