DEMONSTRATIONS AND WORKSHOPS FOR ART SOCIETIES AND GROUPS

DEMONSTRATION - PREPARING FOR AN EXHIBITION
'Make Them Look Twice - Improving your Presentation'
    --------------------------------------------------------

(2 hours, maximum of about 50 people)

This demonstration focuses on how to use mounts and frames to present work (on paper) in a way that makes it look its best and increases its chances of selling. It involves lots of audience participation and sparks lively discussions.

Following a short introduction on current trends I use a painting to invite the audience to see how this picture is subtly, or not so subtly, changed by the mount and frame. This includes:

+ choosing the best part of the work - not always the obvious
+ different widths and colours of mounts and frames
+ double mounts and introducing depth with box frames and spacers
+ the choice of materials and their physical effect on the work
+ what the back of the frame should look like
+ how to present unframed work

After the coffee break the audience divides into six or seven groups and each group is given the same picture and a "kit" which includes a selection of mounts and frames. The groups experiment with these to decide how to make this picture, and others they have brought with them, look their best for an exhibition. I draw the session to a close emphasising:

+ keeping presentation simple and neutral
+ considering mount and frame together
+ being generous with the width of mounts
    + using colour sparingly
    + introducing depth and shadow

    COST OF DEMONSTRATION
    ---------------------

    (for 2017) £110 plus 40p a mile from Chichester.

    MOUNT CUTTING WORKSHOPS
    -----------------------

The introductory workshop focuses on learning to cut single mounts to fit standard size frames. If you can already cut single mounts and want to learn to cut double mounts, gutter mounts for pastels, float mounting and introducing depth and shadows then I can tailor a workshop to your requirements.

I provide all materials and one mount cutter per person, all you need bring are some pictures.

Put a small group together (max 3) and come to Chichester for a one day mount cutting workshop (10.00 to 4.30). I charge £186 for the session.

Alternatively I can bring a workshop to you (max 8). Please get in touch to chat over your ideas and I can give you a quote for workshops away from Chichester.

I have eight years' experience of teaching mount cutting workshops, am qualified to teach adults and have public liability insurance. I really enjoy running these demonstrations and workshops and have had some lovely reviews - so participants seem to get a lot out of them too.
