    If you are interested in learning how to perceive and handle colour, then this is the course for you! You may have a fear of colour and colour mixing, Denise will help guide you through this complex subject.

    In the Ways of Seeing life drawing course we learn about perception of line, tone and shape. This course aims to tackle the deeper subject of colour and colour perception. The aim of the course is to attain a greater awareness of colour and how to capture it successfully in paintings and drawings.

    You will be working mainly in acrylic paints from still life subjects with the opportunity to work from the portrait and life model at the end of the course. The course builds your understanding of colour week by week, culminating in working from the live model.

    All materials and tea and coffee are provided. You just need to bring some suitable clothing and/or apron.

    Itinerary for the course (subject to alteration):

    Seeing colour & the colour wheel
    - basic colour theory, how lighting affects perception
    - terminology. Saturation, Hue, Brightness, Tone etc
    Mixing colours, colour mediums
    - properties of pastel, watercolour, acrylic.
    Layering colour. Opacity, permanence & translucency
    - awareness of how transparent colours combine
    Colour tones & hues
    - perceiving subtleties of colour, balancing tones
    Warm and cool colour moods
    - how colour can affect mood of a picture.
    Colour juxtaposition, composition & harmony
    - creating a pleasing balance of colour for realistic colour
    Crazy contrasting colour
    - clashing colours for abstract effects
    Colour palettes
    Colour palettes for still life

    Colour palettes for the life model
