Take Three Colours: Watercolour Landscapes Book with Geoff Kersey

The best ideas are the simplest ones, and this is about as simple and clear as it gets.

Painting-wise, the idea is to work with just three colours and brushes and use them to depict almost any scene you wish. In terms of instruction, the format has equal clarity: each of the nine projects starts by setting out what you'll learn, then how to prepare your materials and lay out the design. Finally, there are detailed instructions for completing the exercise.

Geoff Kersey is a master of explanation and simplification and he has stripped all the unnecessary detail out of the book. Even the technical introduction is dispensed with in two pages, but still tells you all you need to know before you get straight down to the practical side of things, and the demonstrations themselves occupy no more than four pages. There's no room for fuss or fiddling and you'll see results sooner than you could possibly believe.

Woodlands, mountains, waterscapes, skies and even figures are all here, as well as different seasons and lighting conditions. If you're new to watercolour and maybe afraid of getting started, this will dispel the mystique and set you on the right road. If you have more experience, but feel you need a reboot, also look no further. This is really rather special.
