  • Description/Summary
Get ready to sharpen your pencils and hone your sketching skills with Malcolm Cudmore's speedy challenge! "Below is my Sketchercise challenge. It is the view over our back fence. It is a slightly overcast day, there are cows in the distance, a pair of swans are housekeeping and the trees and hedges by the dyke are rather unkempt. Display the picture on your computer screen (see below for where to find a larger version) or print it out and stand it up so that you can view it vertically (not flat on a table top). Pretend you're looking at the real view. Grab a 2B pencil and your sketch book and in no more than 15 minutes make a sketch from the scene. What will you include? What will you leave out? Will you focus on the distant view? Will you concentrate on the trees or dyke. Will the swans inspire you? I love the wooden cattle bridge myself. But what will you feature? Please don't do long studies - the aim really is to be quick!" Click here for a larger image to copy.
