I think that my fascination with creative paint effects may have its roots in early childhood memories of watching pictures being created, change and fade in the embers of a coal fire.Experiences of places and situations are used, to communicate the very spirit of the subject which first fired my enthusiasm. I try to create works which are individual, full of emotion and interest for the viewer and where there are journeys for the eye within the painting.I like to use a variety of approaches, from realistic interpretations to semi abstract subjects. Wet paper may be used as a base for floating vivid or subtle transparent colour.Textured backgrounds form the basis for compositions involving collage, drawing and markmaking.Sometimes, I use blocked areas to try to create shimmering patterns, which can  allow intense colours to sparkle. When I paint, I try to create impact, atmosphere and above all to have fun with watercolour.
