James Thompson Gray began his art training in oils in Scotland at the age of six under the tutoring of Scottish impressionist J. Mowatt. He now works as a freelance artist in Southport, a seaside resort near Liverpool, working in a variety of styles and media. He demonstrates and talks to Art Societies, tutors The James Gray Art Group who meet weekly and is Art Tutor at Alston Hall and Lancashire County Council.
He also illustrates for companies such as STL in the USA. His paintings have been exhibited at many galleries and exhibitions including The Armed Forces Museum in London and are hung in Wardrooms of Naval and RAF establishments.
His work is also in demand by private patrons in Britain, USA and in countries as diverse as Canada, Switzerland, Thailand, Israel and Egypt. They are also included in the collections of Her Majesty,The Queen, Lady Pilkington, Lady McIvor and Lord Fearn.
James has travelled extensively and painted on location in France, Spain, The Canary Isles, Italy, Madeira, Israel, Egypt, U.S.A., Morrocco and the deserts of the Middle East.
His Christian paintings have been exhibited in the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool and his "Holy Lands" exhibition toured the U K for some years in the mid 1990's.
