Joanna Allen

High Peak, Derbyshire

My work includes a lot of romantic or magical imagery, British flora and fauna, angels, wings and otherworldly characters.
I have a PGCE in Art and Design and have taught art in schools and collages (and art groups!) to all ages for 2 decades. Although my degree is in Printed Textiles, I also nearly opted for Illustration, hence my artworks are both decorative and illustrative too.
I use many different printmaking techniques, including etchings, collagraph, dry point and monoprint. Printmaking allows me to explore variations on a theme. I enjoy the process of layering different media, often combining monoprint with watercolour, pastels, ink and even bleach on the same piece, often creating a distinctive ethereal quality.
I am a member of Peak District Artisans and exhibit regularly in various venues in the Peak District, including at the Stables at Chatsworth House in January through to March, and annually at the Dome in Buxton during the Festival.
