Faber Castell Award 2014
I live in the southeast of England where I paint and teach art in a wide variety of media, technique and subject including watercolour, pastel, acrylic, drawing media and mixed media, landscape, seascape, animals, figures and portraits, still life and flowers. I base my teaching on the key principles of good drawing and composition, including basic perspective and creative and expressive use of colour and brushwork.
I have been teaching for more than fifteen years in Kent and East Sussex, running my own private classes and workshops as well as taking workshops, demonstrations and critiques for several organisations and art societies. I also tutor painting holidays abroad and have created a number of art video courses in collaboration with ArtTutor.com.
I like to think my teaching style is gentle and encouraging and that my passion for painting is transferred to my students. I try to balance my teaching with painting to commission and exhibiting.
In the past I have worked as a freelance illustrator in advertising and publishing. My work has been reproduced in books, on book jackets and in several magazines. I have had paintings shown in many joint exhibitions including at the Mall Galleries, London. In 2014 I received the Faber-Castell Award for my pastel painting of 'Big Baby'.
