    Hitchin Art Club

Membership today is an enthusiastic collection of many and varied personalities and abilities with a common bond of the love of art. The Club atmosphere is such that help, assistance, guidance and inspiration flows readily across gender and age groupings - this is well illustrated by the content and quality of work in our Main Annual Exhibition as well as regular smaller exhibitions and sales throughout the year. Art Club sessions are many and varied and always built around a theme. Although many members like to participate in what is on offer, some also choose to plough their own furrow and work on their own projects. So there is plenty of opportunity to learn something new or work on something of your own choice in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Weekly themes have included life drawing, still life, group collage, group masterpiece - we each do a small section of an image and join our contributions together at the end with some interesting consequences! In addition there are opportunities for outdoor painting. Professional speakers come to the club regularly. They might offer advice through critique, knowledge by giving a talk on a particular theme, or work with us in a new medium, particular topic or technique. All in all, life in the club is varied and interesting but most of all you can meet friendly people with a common interest and who are passionate about art. Hitchin Art club meets in and by kind permission of the Kingshott School on Stevenage Road, Hitchin on a Tuesday evening (school term only) starting at 7.30 until 9.30pm. Special events may have different venues and these are highlighted on the Events page of this website. Membership is £25.00 annually plus £2.00 for demonstration evenings. Chesterfield Art Club

The Chesterfield Art Club is a friendly, well established club, first set up in 1929. We have a strong membership currently standing at around 55, still with a limited number of places available for new members. No specific qualifications are required to join, just an honest interest in art, and a willingness to get stuck in. The Club meets on the second and fourth Friday of the month at Whitecotes School, Whitecotes Lane, Chesterfield, between 7.30 and 9.30 pm, with occasional gaps in the calendar for holidays. The Club seeks to promote art in an interesting and sociable way, and as such has a full and varied programme of activities throughout the year. The regular Friday meetings alternate between Work nights with the option to work on a shared theme, or do your own thing; Nominated Subject nights, where we all bring in work, done at home to a given theme, for comment and advice; and Demonstrations which are given by visiting professional artists. There are other non-Friday Club activities organised throughout the year varying from outdoor painting sessions, and organised visits, to the annual Club Exhibitions and competitions. If you wish to learn more about us come along to one of our meetings where you will be made most welcome, and can get a taste of what we are about. Our Society is one of the longest established in North Lincolnshire, having been formed in 1941 by 6 friends from the Art School in Silver Street, Grimsby, to enable them to pursue their artistic talents in a friendly and informal environment, something we strongly maintain today.  This group was the nucleus of our Society, which became known as the 'North Lincs Art Society'.  The Society boasts a healthy membership, including artists of all abilities from a wide area including Scunthorpe and Louth.  The aim of the Society is to inform and encourage it's members through the many activities arranged throughout the year.Activities can vary from year to year, but are arranged to include social sessions where members are able to enjoy a few hours painting in the medium and subject of their choice and the less experienced can benefit from tips and guidance from more established artists.  Outdoor painting days are also arranged during the warmer months, where the delights of painting and sketching outside are experienced.  Workshops and demonstrations are also arranged throughout the year and have included Ron Ranson, Ashley Jackson, Bryan Ryder, Rob Brindley, Terry Harrison, Roy Lang, Robert Wareing, Jill Carter and Vic Bearcroft, who have all encouraged us in their own medium, be it oils, watercolour, acrylics or pastels. For more information, visit our website, as above.

    Runwell Art Club

We are a fairly new club only starting in Sept. 2011 but what we lack in age we make up for in enthusiasm. Our two founding members, Carole and Paula, who started this pleasant and friendly club, guide us expertly through a wide range of media with positive and supportive encouragement. Most members have especially learnt a great deal from their skills and knowledge of pastels, but they have also challenged us with oils and acrylics. However, everyone has an input, frequently guiding each other and exchanging very helpful ideas - and having a good laugh too! We have already held two exhibitions at our club venue, and are planning two others locally. We are a strongly co-operative club so any monies in hand after paying room rental fees are spent on invitations for tutorials and demonstrations from visiting professional artists. We also have the opportunity to attend a nearby club on a friendly basis, or just to participate when they book a visiting artist. We pay just £3.00 a session. The sessions take place on Friday mornings from 10a.m. until 1p.m. Tea and coffee are at hand! New members are always welcome so please do feel free to contact us at; [email protected] or phone; Carole 01268 560005 or Paula 01268 734436. If you live locally and would like to pop in and check us over, the address is; The Studio, behind Beauty Essence Salon, 122 Alderney Gardens, Runwell, Wickford SS11 7JP.

    Hornsea Art Society

The Hornsea Art Society was founded in 1969 by a small group of people sharing a common interest and enthusiasm for drawing and painting, meeting under the leadership of Harry Hudson Rodmell RSMA who became the first president of the society. This position was later taken up by Colin Verity, also a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the society has flourished over the years and membership now fluctuates just short of the 100 mark. We are an active and vibrant society, our main showcase being the annual summer exhibition which attracts around a thousand visitors with trophies being awarded in 13 categories. Some members also take part in an Open Studios event in and around Hornsea which is proving increasingly popular. Monthly meetings are held featuring demonstrations or illustrated talks by artists from the north of England and we have a comprehensive library of DVDs which are available to hire. Members are also encouraged to take part in full-day workshops, held in spring and autumn and we organise plein air outings during the year which are well supported. In addition to the main exhibition, we now run a project during the year which culminates in a second exhibition of work. This has included “Tour and Detour” which focussed on the Tour de France in Yorkshire; “Passe-partout” which was based on the game of Chinese Whispers; and last year “Spotlight on Hornsea” where participants draw a local map location out of the hat and have to produce a piece of artwork from that area. The theme this year is linked to 'Hull, City of Culture'. Members are also eligible to join the “Monday morning group”, meeting weekly for hands-on practice and mutual support, and the Textile group which concentrates on that particular skill. Hornsea Art Society sponsors and judges competitions in three local schools, offering prizes and a trophy to each, with winning entries being displayed at the summer exhibition. The Society has members of all abilities, from beginners to professionals, working in a wide range of media including watercolour, acrylics, oils, pastel, textiles, sculpture, ceramics and jewellery. Members frequently exhibit their work outside the society and several have taken part in Hornsea’s Seawall Art Competition and their work is now permanently displayed on the south promenade.

    Exmouth Art Group

Exmouth Art Group has for seventy years been "encouraging the appreciation and practice of the visual arts in this district".  This was the declared aim of our founders, a group of seven artists who met in 1946 at a local school wishing to share skills and enthusiasms and organise joint art exhibitions.   Now with almost 200 members, we have a full and varied schedule of events and activities which allow local artists to come together to share their enthusiasms and passion for the visual arts.  We meet regularly for demonstrations and critiques, talks by guest speakers, informal painting sessions, coach trips to art based locations and plein air working.  We hold three significant exhibitions locally each year.   Since 1955, when several members first knocked at their door asking for permission to sketch in the grounds, we have been privileged to have the unfailing support of the Lindsay-Fynn family and Nigel and Heleen Lindsay-Fynn are our second generation Patrons. Members range from age eighteen to ninety-two, from the self-taught amateur to the trained professional, and working in a variety of styles and disciplines. Our eclectic character is one of the reasons, we believe, we are such a successful, dynamic Group, embracing the traditional but at the same time maintaining a contemporary outlook.    We exhibit regularly and have an unbroken record of holding our major annual autumn event.  We hold our Annual Exhibition in October, which we hold at an impressive venue on the seafront. For the last few years we have invited Exmouth Community College students to display some pieces and their artwork certainly adds a different buzz to the event.  We also have Artist's in residence painting with various mediums for visitors to watch.  We are so proud to continue the ethos of those seven inspired artists in continuing to be active contributors to a vibrant art community in this modest-sized seaside town.      Catherine Ager (Hon Secretary)

The HBA’s are a unique group of artists who live in the village of Hutton Buscel, which is on the edge of the North York Moors National Park between Pickering and Scarborough. The group was the brainchild of Shirley Doyle who got together a group of artists friends with the view to holding an exhibition, but as word got around, membership soon grew. There are now 12 members who are all very talented ‘artisans’ ranging from photographers, ceramicists, portraiture, wildlife and equine artists, illustrated poetry, textile artists, oil painters and pastelists, watercolourists, landscape and seascape artists, haberdashery and much much more. Our annual exhibition includes ‘all’ aspects creativity in any medium.   Every month we meet with the sole purpose of planning our annual exhibition, which takes place at the end of each November. Holding the exhibition just a few weeks before Christmas means that we can include a festive theme, which has proven very popular in recent years. Be sure to check out their Poppy Installation in the grounds of the church. 2017 will see us putting on our 5th exhibition of art and craft in the Village Hall on Sat 25th and Sun 26th November 2017. SEVEN Artists UK

SEVEN is an artist collective, from the Thames Estuary in Leigh on sea. Formed by seven local artists who met on a Creative Journal course, led by Heidi Wigmore at Metal in Southend, we have as a group, continued to develop our art practice using creative sketchbooks and altered books. We define a creative sketchbook as having ‘a visual conversation with yourself as an artist and between ourselves as a creative collective’; whereas an altered book is a way of repurposing a second hand/found book to give it a new narrative and meaning. The books we create are very tactile and full of texture; and it is refreshing to produce such tangible work in our increasingly digital world. Individually, we are all successful artists/designers/makers with a variety of backgrounds and skills. Within our creative sketchbooks, we love having the space to take risks without the pressure for it to ‘come out right’ or the need to seek approval. We love the synergy of bouncing ideas off each other and it continually surprises us to see how each person interprets the same brief in their own unique way.
