Liquid Pencil is an innovative product that allows you to create authentic graphite pencil effects and pencil sketches using a liquid. It can be thinned with water to allow for the softest of colours to be applied with a brush, nib, or other art tools. It is the ideal option to cover large areas quickly and easily and the colour can be built up in layers.

Available in 40ml pots, it comes in a permanent or rewettable formulation. The permanent liquid pencil will 'burnish up' similar manner to traditional graphite but it will not smudge. The rewettable formula allows you to remove areas using water - in a similar manner to watercolour techniques, or it is possible to use with a traditional eraser.

Question:

What is the difference between 'grey 3' and 'grey 9' please?

    Dear Ian,

I have found very little difference between the Grey 9 and the Grey 3 Liquid pencil when using them, but the supplier does use the different numbers to distinguish that the graphite is sourced from different areas of the world.

Here is the information for the supplier web site.

The graphite powder used in Liquid Pencil Grey 3 is sourced from China and has a partially formed structure that contains additional compounds, which give it a deep black colour with a blue undertone. In contrast, the graphite used in Liquid Pencil Grey 9 comes from Sri Lanka and has a more uniform chemical structure that imparts a silver metallic sheen to the finish.

    I hope this helps,
