Can this be used to copy from a photograph?
Thank you for your enquiry, Camera Lucida uses mirrors to reflect an object on to the paining surface where you can use the reflected image as a guide for drawing or painting.
The Camera Lucida is not really designed of photographs. If you are looking for a tool which you can use to copy a photograph there are a number of options.
Light Box – this can be used to shine a bright light through sheets of paper enabling you to to trace around the image. (it is best to use a copy of a photograph to allow the light to shine through)
Projector – these can be used to enlarge or reduce the size of the original image. The image is reflected on to the support allowing you to be able to trace down the image. For best result work in a darken room
You can use a photograph but it is better to use a copy)
Tracedown – this wax free transfer paper can be used very much like carbon paper to transfer and image onto a surface (you need to use a copy to transfer your image)
Scale Dividers - These scale dividers will help you transfer measurements from life, photographs and sketches with ease…achieving accurate proportions every time.
Hope this information helps, Kind regards
Image produced on paper is a reversed image due to reflection in mirror. Is there a way to make the image non reversed?
Having used and double checking the Camera Lucida I can confirm that the image is not reversed. It reflects an image of the subject in to the paper.
The image is faint, but you can see the dimensions and you can improve the subject by additional lighting.
