One of my favourite critters from my scuba diving days, is the seahorse. Difficult to photograph (since using a flash makes them go blind), one usually ends up with a fairly monochromatic image of a seahorse, well-camouflaged, in natural lighting amongst the weeds and coral background. I used the bold brushstrokes, that I have learned from Marie Antoniou's workshops. I focussed on pattern and texture to create the spiny feel of the body. I got inventive with the colours, employing some complementary pairs and cropped my image in a vertical format, to give the little creature a sense of presence. After all, I think some appreciation is due, for a species whose Daddies look after the babies.
