This dog portrait is wonderful,as if there was a real dog in front of me. The nose and the eyes are so convincing

Good depiction of wiry coat. Eyes, nose and mouth very good. I find tongues and teeth quite difficult

October 25, 2013
This has got to be one of my favourites. So much character in his expression, and life-like sparkly eyes!! I love the wispy texture you have captured in his coat, you can almost feel it, plus the cute wet shiny nose. Brilliant.

October 24, 2013
WOW! Very lifelike. The hairs are exactly right, the nose has that damp touch look to it, and the eyes truly capture the soul - the reflection in the eyes is amazing. Once again - WOW!

October 21, 2013

July 28, 2013
This little dog reminds me of our "Patch" and you've really observed every detail in this piece. Well done Roselle. Thanks also for your comment on my pic of Portmerion. We love it and are lucky enough to live near enough to go along for the day. Bye for now

Wonderful eyes nose and mouth. what sort of paper do you use? perhaps the fur could have more layering to give a greater depth, I like it a lot.

July 25, 2013
He looks so happy!

July 23, 2013
Many thanks for your encouraging comments of my work, Roselle!

July 12, 2013

July 07, 2013
Hi Rosella I've looked at your artwork and I think this one is my favourite. He looks a happy chap. well done! keep painting.

July 06, 2013
This is beautiful. The eyes are very life-like and the individual strands of fur are particularly well done. I also love the colouring of the teeth, and the nose is just spot on.

July 05, 2013
The eyes are captivating. Lovely dog.

July 03, 2013
This dog has real character, I especially love the eyes!

July 03, 2013
I love the expression you've captured here.

July 03, 2013
The "eyes have it", as they say!

July 03, 2013
I agree with the previous comment, you really do have an expertise when painting the eyes, great work, well done and you're on your way to the top comment with this standard of work.

July 02, 2013
Hi Roselle. Thank you for your comments on my work. I have looked at your paintings and I can see they have been done with great affection. As others have said, you really have a special expertise with the eyes. Your 'Happy Dog' really does look happy and ready for a game of ball! Speaking for myself, I only paint from my own photos or sketches and rarely from just one image. I also choose not to do other people's pets because I have found that the proportions between the features have to be completely accurate for an exact likeness. Well done on all your work, especially the animals who look as if they are going to take off any minute!

June 28, 2013
Nice piece Roselle. Read my comments on your other pieces as this applies to all your work. I don't know whether you have had tuition. I would love you to come to one of my workshops. With your obvious talent I could help you improve your vision and technique

June 27, 2013

Brilliant

June 26, 2013
This is an amazing example of how texture can be achieved with pastels. The hair is so effective and contrasts so well with the liquidity and lifelike nature of the eyes. Very good work indeed.

June 25, 2013
Everyone says he's a he, but I've been misled before, only one way to tell. This is a cracker, absolutely great. If only I could give him (or her) a biscuit!

June 24, 2013
Ros hes beautiful - I want to take him home !! All the previous comments are true . I love the detail you've achieved and you can almost see him panting ! x

June 24, 2013
Roselle this is so cute. He looks like a real little character. The eyes and the teeth are great.

June 23, 2013
Wow! Roselle,he looks so real, beautiful detail in eyes, teeth and the fur and not forgetting the nose. Great work

June 23, 2013
The eyes are brilliantly rendered, the reflections in them are very good and I also like the direction of the fur coat: very accurate and detailed. Well done!

June 21, 2013
This is very nice -- fine detail for a pastel. Do you use pastel pencils, sharpened?

June 21, 2013
Hi Roselle This is great. You have captured the eyes perfectly and the proportions are just right. I use inktense pencils and pastels but not in the same picture. could you let me know your working methods please? Thanks for your comments on my work. Jean

I think this is your best one Roselle out of the ones I've seen, you have captured the character of this dog brilliantly, good eye work, to me the eyes are the most important part of any portrait, I always start with the eyes first, whether human or animal, very well done, good job with the fur, nose and mouth also... look forward to seeing more from you soon :)

June 14, 2013
