Since 2020, SAA has stood for ‘Supporting All Artists’. So, we decided to do just that as we scouted gallery spaces for this year’s Artists of the Year exhibition, by renting a space from a local art club. Nottingham Society of Artists is one of the oldest art societies in the country, founded in 1880. Its home is St Luke’s House, a three storey Art Deco building in Friar Lane, a stone’s throw from the newly renovated Nottingham Castle in the centre of the city. St Luke’s House was built for the Society in 1934 and it still owns the whole building.
We enlisted the help of another local company, V21 Artspace, which uses a mixture of innovative and multimedia technologies to produce immersive 3D virtual exhibitions and tours for the arts. The intention is not to replace the physical experience, or the many properties of the artworks, but to provide a digital solution for those who can’t be there in person.
