This years Challenge wants you to be quick of the mark. We would like you to draw or paint something you can see right in front of you. It doesn't matter what it is - a stapler, a set of keys, a bowl of cereal, a box of eggs, even a coat hook. Look about you, find your object and capture it as quickly as you can.
Working swiftly, without taking time to plan or think, is a valuable exercise for any artist. We're after simplicity here, so try not to choose a subject with too much detail or too many elaborate features. When you paint or draw it, look for shapes and angles, use light and shadow to create an impression of what you see.
So, now it's over to you! Once you've had a go at this year's Challenge - and this really could be one that you do time and time again - do write and let us know how you got on, we'd love to see your finished work on the website - go to www.saa.co.uk and click on competitions and then SAA Challenge 2015.
Don't forget to tell us (honestly) how long it took, what you like - or dislike - about it, and how it feels to have no time to think about, or perfect, a work of art. And while you're there, don't forget to look at what other SAA members have done and comment on their efforts too!
