  1. Makes better darks than Burnt Umber Review by Caroline Strong

Althuogh not a single pigment Sepia mixed with varying ammounts of Ultramarine Blue makes blue/blacks through to brown/blacks for contrast in your watercolours. The mix can be used on its own or added to the colour you want a dark version of eg.if you add blue/black to the green you have used for a tree you end up with a dark version of the green. 2. Better than burnt umber for darks Review by Caroline Strong

Although not a single pigment I find when mixed with Ultramarine blue it makes colours ranging from brown black through to blue black that are of real value to landscape paintings as it is so important to have contrasts and this is invaluable in making darks. If I need a very dark green I mix a blue black and add the green to it. (Posted on 19/02/2013)

  3. a must have Review by Simon Tew
