Dogs are not called man's best friend for nothing, and they're certainly the animal subject you're most likely to come across.

The problem, of course, is that everyone knows what they're supposed to look like and the world will be your harshest critic!

In this new book, Paul Apps provides the outline tracings that are the mainstay of the series, removing at a stroke the first stumbling block you'll meet - the modelling.

At once, you're free to concentrate on the painting rather than the drawing and on how to get the colours and the brushstrokes right, how to make fur look strokeable and give eyes their depth.

In five highly-detailed demonstrations, Paul paints different breeds, poses and settings that will give you the confidence to tackle almost any subject.

The finished results are both lifelike and filled with life, as doggy, in fact, as you could wish.

  1. I am sooo thrilled, I just love the finished paintings. Review by Julie Bird

I may even try to do them in oils which is my prefered medium. The good thing about these tracings is that you can redo them in different colours too. I would like to see a second version one day, with different dogs. Im excited about trying them. (Posted on 08/04/2013)

  2. great book Review by Linda Hewson

Lovely book with full and easy to follow instructions (Posted on 22/03/2013)

  3. Your Own Bow-Wow Review by B Hester

Very useful and not too detailed intro to painting your own dog. Included tracings of several popular breeds, with instructions to turn into super pictures. Based on acylics but I beleive adaptable to other mediums also. Superb. (Posted on 19/02/2013)

  4. Dogs &Puppies Review by Eileen Hollis

Very good book and the tracings are very helpful. I had difficulty in following the instructions about halfway through. Possibly having the DVD as well would have helped. (Posted on 19/02/2013)
