Capture the colour and atmosphere of the seasons in pastel with professional artist Jeremy Ford.

In this DVD, Jeremy Ford paints landscapes in each of the four seasons, on the way explaining most of the techniques a beginner will need to get started in this fascinating medium. The four paintings demonstrated are:

A bluebell meadow with a foreground tree and a distant hedgerow, where you will learn how to layer a sky, how to blend and soften colours and how to work with both limited and fine detail.

A beach scene on coloured ground where the base paper is part of the foreground beach. Jeremy will show you how to use masking tape to delineate the divide between sea and sky and also how to paint waves and include distant figures.

A big, dramatic sky forms the backdrop to a richly-coloured moorland. The white of the paper is used to form the clouds from negative shapes, which are given depth and volume by the use of greys to create shadow.

A lone figure and a dog wade through drifts of snow against an orange sunset, where the colours graduate subtly from blue to orange as they meet the horizon. Middle-distance trees are backlit by the last rays of the sun and the cold is palpable.

DVD: 80mins

Please note that while this is a Region 0 DVD, it is PAL formatted and therefore unlikely to play in North America, Japan, South Korea and some of the Pacific Islands.

However, all DVDs will play on personal computers and laptops.
  1. An insight into Pastel work Review by Robert Wood

a great guide to the use of pastels it takes the hard work out of landscapes (Posted on 08/04/2013)

  2. Geo.P. Ewings Long retired 24 yrs Review by G P Ewings

I have tried oil painting, watercolours and now pastels. I watch SAA on TV and my favourite on watercolours is Geoff Kersey, also like Terry Harrison and Arnold Lowther, the latter also on pastels but Jeremy Ford excels at pastels and a distinct favourite for me, laid back but clear & precise.
I am not very good in any medium but enjoy what I do and really all is due to you SAA, you have always been so helpful and obliging. All the materials I have purchased are excellent quality and fulfil every need and delivery of orders are second to none, no flattery intended, just the plain truth, many thanks and look forward to being a member of SAA for a lot longer ( Tongue in cheek at 85yrs)
