| This painting is very closely based on an original oil painting by John Atkinson Grimshaw.To celebrate the opening of their brand new municipal park in Roundhay, the Leeds City fathers commissioned Atkinson Grimshaw to produce three paintings. These paintings were to be a celebration of the attractions of the park and would be used to advertise it. Grimshaw responded with three 'moonlights' that exquisitivly captured scenes few people would ever see! This simple but striking composition well illustrates the vision of this often under rated master. |
