Step Three - Start to apply a mid tone colour adding a very small amount of Titanium white to your colour. This paint mixture has no water added and your brush is dry. Using a drybrush method apply minute amounts of colour to your petals, either stroking gently or lightly scrubbing in. I use a circular motion to blend. The effect should look very much like the image has been airbrushed and should gradually blend away. The art is to control the brush by pressure, the more pressure, the more dense the colour. Take the pressure off the brush to blend away. Try not to work over the colour too much or you could lift the paint up again and it will appear patchy.
Remember for this technique you always need a fairly stiff flat headed hog brush (suitable for oils) or fitch brush - depending on your budget. |
