| This piece is also about the act of remembering. In this case, it is about the way that smell can trigger memories. For the artist, on this occasion, it is fish and chips which reminded him of a time and place that no longer exist. It is a contemporary portrait but in a remembered setting - what was once the most easterly pub in Britain (demolished in the late 1960s to make way for a huge frozen fish factory). There are several other visual references that are both clues to the setting and personal to the artist. |
