We knew Christmas 2011 would be our final one with Taz. He had posterior paresis (a gradual paralysis of the hind quarters) and had already outlived the vet's expectations - Taz was never a quitter! So, I decided to honour him that year by painting a seasonal picture of him with my pastels on velour and using the final result to create our own Christmas cards for family and friends. Based on a photograph I had taken a couple of years earlier, I added a wintry background scene and a festive Santa hat to create a fun painting in an attempt to capture his irrepressible spirit and humour!
Taz always waited for Santa every Christmas Eve for a chat over a nice juicy bone and loved opening his Christmas presents on the Big Day. Last Christmas was very different without him but this painting is now part of our festive decorations so he can continue to enjoy the celebrations with us every year. |
