Hello SAA forums :D

I am very shy but I do like making friends; especially arty friends who I can babble, draw and paint with. Unfortunately I find it difficult in social situations and require help getting out and about if I am going somewhere new for the first time, but I am willing to do so to make new arty friends!

My preferred media is watercolours but more often that not I just sketch in pen or pencil or ink or... anything I have to hand, really (I draw constantly. My drawing arm is connected to my brain, I swear...) I have worked in acrylics and I do enjoy them when they work well. Oils I have used only once which was a long time ago; mostly because my lungs don't like working with them. Pastels aren't a favourite but the recent event in Manchester made me rethink that, haha.

Most of all I am a very "mixed media" artist; pencils, watercolours, ink, graphic markers, etc are mushed together to make... something. Results vary. A lot. I have yet to create a Frankenstein's Art Monster but I fear the day I work during a storm.

Which sort of segues onto the fact I draw a lot of fantasy/sci-fi/everything-but-pets-and-plants-and-portraits sort of thing. Willing to branch out though as I would really love to broaden my horizons and improve my concept artist potential.

Erm, sorry for babbling a lot but I tend to do this when I'm nervous... and I am very nervous. Just thought I'd give you some ideas of what I do :D

If you are interested in meeting up I can give you my skype/email and we can figure out where to meet and what to do.

Thankyou for your time and consideration,

Weeburd

Hi Weeburd! I'm glad you enjoyed IAAA at Manchester. I run an SAA art group; Art Zone at Abram, near Wigan, and took my group (30 members) to Manchester last Saturday. The problem is that we've been spoilt now, and want it at Manchester again!

I've run Demonstrations and Workshops at Art Fusion, at Chorlton, if thats not far away from you, and they are a very good and friendly group, so perhaps you could look them up; you will find then if you google Art Fusion.

I've always liked to read, and I've read some sci fi in my time, and have painted some artwork for a feature about the life of George R Stewart (Earth Abides), as I spent some time researching Stewarts work at Berkeley University, near San Francisco.

Well, there you go; I've babbled on a bit as well!

Good luck and very best wishes,

Steve Williams

Ooh you'll have to come back to Manchester more often then; I really enjoyed the exhibition and would certainly come again.

I'll have a look and see, as Chorlton is on the other side of Manchester from me, but I've looked at the group before and they look really lovely.

That sounds fascinating too, definately have to have a gander at all that :D

I also really enjoy paleo art as well... guess I never grew out of that dinosaur phase.

Hi Weeburd
I like sci-fi too. I like reading it, watching it and sometimes I get to paint it too. It's nice to hear from other fans as none of my family are into it and think its boring or weird.
I'm looking forward to IAAA coming back to Manchester too, and so are my students as I hired a minibus and took a group of them to the show. Between us we filled the back of the minibus with bags of art goodies
Steve, I'm in the Blackpool area so we are practically neighbours. We should arrange a get together for local PA's and members. A regional party or meal out.

Hi Julie!

I like the idea of a few local PA's getting together! Will you be at SAA on Friday 30th November?

Very best wishes,

Steve
