I would like to buy a professional mount board cutting system. Up till now I have used the Maped cutter and ruler but have decided to invest in one that relies less on my calculations with ruler and pencil and less on my ability to keep the ruler in place! I have been looking at ones by Longridge, Logan and Mat Master. Does anyone have any experience of any of these (or others)? I am expecting to pay over £100.

Hi Jenet, I have use been using a Longridge bevel mount cutter for years now, and find it very easy to use, and produces excellent results as long as you are careful. You will need to ensure that the size of mount cutter that you finally decide on will be big enough to suit the maximum size of mount that you want.

I have been using Logan for years and found it very easy to use, and gives very good rsults. You will make some mistakes at first, but dont give up. It's satisfying to mount your own work (and maybe for others too!). Good luck

Hi Jenet, I was recommended the Logan mount cutter by my excellent Art Teacher who had tried them all. I use the Logan with ruler attachment, she uses just the cutter and her own heavy metal ruler. place an old piece of mount board on top of a heavy flat peice of wood and use this as a base for cutting your mount board. I have made loads of mistakes but learnt from each one. keep perservering it is well worth it. Logan do a cutter for occassional use or a stronger model for proffessional use which is the one I would recommend.

Hello Jenet

I have used Logan for several years and found it good, and straightforward, to use. I don't use the word easy because nothing is until you get used to it. However I did start from scratch with Logan, having used nothing previously, and the results have been absolutely fine. Good luck.

John

Hi Jenet
I recently bought a Logan Intermediate 450 mount cutter and have found it very easy to use with excellent results. Its quite cumbersome and heavy but you don't need rulers or cutting mats to use it. I have already cut lots of mounts and all have been successful. It wasn't cheap (about £150) but well worth it.

Hi Jenet

I have been using t a Longridge cutter for several years, they are easy to use once you get the hang of it, and can save you lots of money and effort sorting through commercally cut ones. The SAA sell mountboard at a very reasonable price (lets face it, they are cheap) - especially considering it is post free in UK. Which ever system you go for you will find it money well spent.

Best of luck

Gordon Brady
