I recently was given a beautiful starter set of Chinese brushes and stuff, and wanted to know if the paint is already preloaded onto the brushes ? The set is like the one on your site, or do I need any actual Chinese paint or inks? I'm going to order a roll of Chinese Rice paper to paint on...

After reading your forum posting it would be difficult for me to make a presumption without seeing the set, so the best advice i can offer is to open the set and see if there is any paint, but generally you would need to purchase the paint separately.

There is one little pot of Red I presume its paint or ink? The brushes are different colours, that's why I thought that maybe there some paint on, so what's the best starter paint to use?

This is very much like the set I've acquired, and I'd love to know what each thing is used for?

you will gat a lot of help from the book "Traditional and contemporary chinese brush painting" by Cheng Yan, which you can find in the SAA home shop code:CYTCCPB or look up chinese brush in the search box of the shop to see DVDs and other books.

I have a set of Chinese brushes and they came with sticks of paint that you have to grind down to a powder and mix with water. The red pot is I think for making your mark and signing your painting...I think that is right anyway
