The SAA does not take a percentage of any paintings you sell directly to a customer through the SAA website. We do take commission on paintings that we sell on your behalf such as those at SAA exhibitions and we may in the future develop other ideas, but you will always know in advance who get what.
Paintings look best mounted but you should always give your buyer the option of mounted, unmounted or framed and tell them the cost of each. Charge postage and insurance at cost or let them collect the picture.
If you do not know the customer, be careful and get paid in cash or by Paypal or similar, especially with overseas buyers and be especially careful if they offer to buy all your work and to send extra money for shipping which they then ask you to send on to another person. An overseas cheque is not cleared until it has gone back to the issuing bank abroad and this may take two to three weeks and you can end up loosing out.
You always own the copyright of your paintings unless you agree to sell it as well as the picture, so take good photographs before you part with it. Unless a buyer buys the copyright as well, they do not have the right to print copies of the picture without your permission, but you can.
Happy painting
John Hope this helps
