HI,

I work in coloured pencil, doing animal portraits from photos. It is extremely frustrating to try to get decent reference material which does not infringe copyright. Does anyone have any photos which they own the copyright of which they would be willing to let me use/buy and for which I will be able to sell/exhibit the completed artworks?

Many thanks,

Mandy

Hi Mandy

What sort of animals are you looking for ? I frequently carry a camera to get reminder photos for sketches. Although I don't paint animals, I have a few birds - Seagulls, Owls (at an owl sanctuary), robins and probably a few more if I search through. There are some koi carp I've never used for that painting I've never gotten around to. Thinking about it - pets - guinea pigs and a border collie/labrador who is no longer with us. I will have some of cows and sheep. Plus whatever may be in Edinburgh and Jersey Zoos. Butterlies/bees close ups... I'm going to post this now before I remember any more.
Cheers
Andy

Mandy, if you take your own photos on any subject you might like to look at http://paintmyphoto.ning.com/. Members post photos to share with others and these include animals, etc.

This site:
http://paintmyphoto.ning.com/
is especially for people to load up photos that artists can use as reference material with no copyright worries.
I typed in 'animals' and was presented with 35 pages of photos so you might find something of use,

Hello Mandy,
I created a page on Facebook called Artist reference Photos in March 2011. There are over 7000 photographs there for artists to use and more each day. Take a look if you or anyone else needs reference photographs. Over 80 albums of different subjects.
