Hi Graham, I recommend Trudy Friend's book 'Drawing - Problems and Solutions'. She's also written one called 'Landscape - Problems and Solutions', which deals with watercolour, pastel, pen and ink, etc. But start with 'Drawing' - it's the best book on the subject I've ever found and I refer to it constantly. You'll find it in the SAA shop. Dave

Hi Graham

If you want accurate true to life drawings Carrie Stuart Parks and Rick Parks do an excellent "Secrets to realistic drawings" series. For a looser style of drawing William L Maughan "The complete guide" series. both excellent and available on amazon and you can take a look inside the book. Use good pencils - Faber Castell are superb and good heavyweight smooth cartridge paper then practice practice practice. good luck.

Hi,

have the Trudy Friend Drawing Bible (available from SAA with dvd) its based on 8 techniques which are combined to achieve each picture.

I am currently reading Drawing on the right side of brain which is proving very helpfull in enabling me to draw what I "see" not what I think I see. Having said that a session with a tutor might help you to identify which aspect of your drawing needs strengthening. Then you can buy the right book for your needs.

Good luck!
