An expert from Daler Rowney replies "When we are making a skin tone colour we use flake white, light red and cadmium red. You can either buy this ready mised in a tube, or mix it up yourself using those three colours. Depending on the colour of skin you are trying to paint, you could add more flake white with a touch of yellow ochre. It is also important to get the shadowns right, as they add depth to the face. For warm shadows use yellow ocre and raw umber. For rich shadows use green and orange (this is especially good on darker skins) and for a colder shadow use raw umber, purple and light red.
