I belong to a class and group and we were wondering about starting an art society locally. I wondered whether you could give us any tips or hints as to how to go about it.

Margaret Evans replies: "Once a group have decided to form a society , and appointed treasurer/secretary etc., it is advisable to seek help from the local library , who are usually pleased to help local groups, can publicise their meetings, attract new members and even set up exhibitions for them at little or no cost. In Scotland, it is worthwhile getting in touch with the Scottish Arts Council, who offer financial assistance for groups when organising visiting artists demonstrations etc."
