Is there any way of stopping them going mouldy?

Hi Claire22! Do you mean that the Acrylics in the palette are going mouldy, or that the palette itself is the problem?
Come back to me and lets try and find an answer for you.

Very best wishes,

I mean the sheet inside the pallette, the membrane and the keep wet sheet

Hi Claire22! Thanks for a very quick response; I'm a fairly quick painter (Acrylics and Watercolour) so when I use acrylics, I don't use a Stay Wet Palette, so I don't know a great deal about them, but lets see how far we get.
What do you think the membraine is made from? Is it a kind of soft plastic or a kind of grease proof film?

thanks,

Steve

Thanks for your response, to be honest, I'm not sure probably more of a grease-proof film - (kind of like newsprint in colour)

Hi Claire, Is the membraine washable, or does it fall to pieces?!!

If its washable, perhaps try gently cleaning off the Acrylic and letting it dry off before using it again.
Do you think that the mould appears when acrylics are left in the palette (I know its a Stay Wet palette, and this is what its used for), but this may be the root of the problem, that paints may be left for a few days in such a palette.

Lets know how you get on.

Good luck and very best wishes,

Steve

You can wash the sheet, as I have done, should I leave this to dry?

Hi Claire! Lets try this; leave the sheet to dry and then use it again when you're ready and lets know what happens!

Very best of luck and best wishes,

Steve

Hi Claire,

I've just replied to another post on Stay Wet Palettes from Ammar. My post will answer all your questions. I've been in the art business for 25 years and have been teaching acrylic painting for 6 and half years now, and this is a very common problem for my students. Hope my post will be of help.
