The only gallery in the Borough of Broxtowe, Nottinghamshire is in danger of being closed by a penny pinching council who, squandered money by investing in the Icelandic Bank which has crashed like many others, and the investments are now gone. With a lack of foresight the councillors decided to close the D.H.Lawrence Heritage Centre known as 'Durban House', after spending more than 2 million pounds in refurbishment. It houses a museum featuring the works & life of D.H. Lawrence, a Victorian schoolroom with costumes, and a history of mining display with audio/visual information as well as the Rainbow Gallery. This is an attraction for visitors to the area from all over the world, a source of history lessons for the many hundreds of schoolchildren who visit by bus to learn about the history of mining and schools. Not least of all, the gallery is used by local artists (professional & hobbyists), photographers, beadcrafters, sculptors, weavers and miniaturists, to name but a few. Workshops are held in the function rooms by most of those mentioned. Painting days are held in the grounds during the summer. There's also a fine Bistro where excellent food is served. The place is extremely well used and needed by the community. USE FACEBOOK - TYPE IN - DON'T CLOSE DURBAN HOUSE. Register your details in protest to support our cause. PLEASE HELP.
