I am interested in seeing some demonstrations on acrylic painting techniques relating to both abstract and figurative painting. I am disappointed to see that almost the entire SAA community appears to think only in terms of watercolour. I never studied art at school just got painting when I retired so I am a bit short on technique. Please can we have some more detailed programmes on say painting the mouth or hair and/or some abstract studies. I'm a bit tired of the usual landscapes, skies and windows.

Hello Celine! Which area are you in? Perhaps we can find a local group or course for you to expand your Acrylic painting.
Very best wishes,

Hi Steve

Thanks for replying. I live in Norwich and have just returned recently from France. I belonged to a group there and I miss it a bit. If you have any details of a group in this area, I'd love to check it out. Thanks again.

Celine

I agree totally with Celine, I love painting in acrylic and would like to please see more painting techniques etc using acrylic and not watercolour 90% of the time.

Hi,
This strikes a cord with me too. At the moment I am struggling to paint a blue sky fading into a soft yellow sunlight ... I get either a hard edge or a green sky. Not great. Does anyone have an ideas?
Thanks
John

Hi Acrylic painters! For anyone in my area, I'm running 4 Acrylic Workshops at Inglenook Farm, Rainford, St Helens between 14th May and 20th August.
I really enjoy Acrylic and so many people have told me that they struggle with the medium sometimes, especially with Skies.

Very best wishes,

I would like to say if you want to learn the techniques regarding painting then i suggest hire a professional teacher instead of to do any kind of other things.

Hi Bloomoon! If you're struggling with green on the (Acrylic) horizon, where the blue meets the yellow(ish) of the sunrise / sunset, then use a redder shade yellow, or a yellow / burnt sienna mixture. You'll find that you dont get the dreaded green and you will soon find the best mix for your personal way of painting.

Very best wishes,

Thank you Steve. I have left skies behind for a while but am about to return. Will give you recommendations a try.

I've just checked out this weeks programs to watch on the Anytime website, and all but one is for watercolour, the other being pen and ink.
I suppose if watercolour is the most popular it is natural that this would be the main thing the channel shows, but would it hurt to have just one acrylic program each week?
I feel that the SAA in general is biased towards watercolour, even the welcome pack contains a watercolour book!
Any other frustrated acrylic users?
