i would love to try working with acrylics but am confused as to what is meant by: RETARDER
TEXTURE GEL /PASTE
i have just watched Michael Sanders on propellier paint a beautful snowy mountain scene and he mentioned both these items but cant find a reference to them in SHOP Magazine

Hello Veronica! I'm Steve Williams, RSC for West Lancs area. I think you looking for 2 different products here;
RETARDER is used to retard (slow down) the drying of paints, and also assist the flow.
TEXTURE GEL / PASTE is used to build high texture (with Acrylics) so that you can get a real textured, high build effect, though the paint will take longer to dry.
I hope this helps to answer your question, but come back to me if you need more help.
Steve

hi steve ,sorry its taken me so long to get back to you but i've been without my computer until now
I had taken a chance and bought some texture paste from the saa shop and i've been trying out some of the sugestions from the pro's on telly and I think this may be my favouritite medium as I can now cover up any mistakes easily now and make themlook as though they were intended
Again steve my apologies and all my thanks for your advise
vera.

As for showing my efforts in one of the compititions I don't think I'm confident enough for that yet but I think it's a case of never say never!

you don't need all that retarder and stuff, treat the paint like a water based oil, work quickly if like or slower if thats the way you like it. Remember you can always over paint with acrylics
