Hi all my first post but a quick question is it ok to mix paint brands in a painting say Winsor & Newton artists watercolour paint and S.A.A artists watercolour paints, say for instance you had a few of each or is to best to stick to one brand for consistency.

I think all of the manufacturers would say only mix their paints to achieve colours, but I personally would use whatever I have to hand.
I use and demonstrate SAA Watercolours around the local art groups (Wigan / Warrington) but if I have bits of older colours around, I will use them as part of a mixture.
The one drawback to this is that when you come to mix the same colour again, you may not have any of a certain colour you've used before, so be careful of that.

But I think in general, Watercolour will mix with Watercolour.

I always mix different brands, however I never use any of the cheaper paints, that can be found out there in the wider retail market. I have a large selection of Reeves (30 years old), Winsor and Newton, and ofcourse Daler. These are more than satisfactory. What I will not do is buy these Specialist Colours (attributed to some professionals), because I beleive you should mix all your own colours, and just enjoy what comes out.
