I have always used Winsor and Newton paint, preferably artist quality, but have been told that White night Russian paints are very good. Has anyone got experience of using them and how did you find them ? What is your favourite brand and why?
It would be lovely to hear other people's opinions.

Hi Janespastels! I run an SAA Art Group (Art Zone) at Wigan, tutor a Watercolour class also in Wigan and also run Demonstrations and Workshops at art groups around my area, from Liverpool, through Warrington and Wigan to Manchester. I've never used these Russian paints, so I can't offer an opinion.
I use SAA Watercolours for all of my watercolour demo's and workshops, and also any private watercolour commissions.
SAA Watercolours are slightly sticky and this is perfect for my style of loose painting; I like Impressionism.
This is not me being biased, but I really do like the way the colours work and behave.
As I go through a lot of watercolours, I also find them extremely cost effective.

Hope the above helps, but come back to me if you want any more information.

Very best wishes,

Steve Williams

Thank you Steve for answering my post. Although I have always drawn I have only used pastels really, but now I am trying to use watercolour. I have decided to try these Russian paints so iwill let people know what they are like. I have only dabbled in painting so have lot to learn so I May take you up on your offer of advice.

Jane

I have been painting for just 3yrs and find that White Knights have a good range of colours that mix well. Whilst on a world cruise all 4 of the tutors remarked on the brightness of the colours in my box (that did not cost a fortune by the way).

Thank you for your answers. I have bought myself some White knight paints and I love them! They are lovely rich colours and so creamy to use. As they are so soft I can see that iwill have to replace certain colours much quicker than with W & N but they are much cheaper so wont break the bank.having a go at a flamingo at the moment so may post it if I can fathom out how.
