It depends on my mood. I find dance music strangely relaxing. But I can also go the other way and listen to some jazz like Cleo Laine. Joni is a particular fav too tho. I love Blue.

Hi! I always paint with music, as I had light and electricity put in my Cabin in the back garden. I have a large collection of all kinds of music, from Transvision Vamp to Vivaldi and everything in between.

I always listen to the radio (BBC R2 & 4), iTunes or CDs when working. I often don't take in what is in the background in detail but find that the sound helps me to focus. I listen to a very wide range of music from classical through progressive rock to contemporary jazz. Currently really enjoying Debussey and other French composers. Recently, I've been working on a large detailed CP piece sitting (in residence) at a local cafe here in Bungay. There was no music as such - but the endless (and sometimes quite randomly sampled!) chatter of conversation seemed to do the same job!

Hi there

Well I listen to paul weller, wild wood, always gives me good results and this week I dug out an oldie of Enya's but made the mistake of putting the first track on repeat...took me about 20 mins to work out I had done this because I was so absorbed in my pastel painting ! ha ha so must have chilled me out.
Gotta say though if I a bit unsettled before painting wild wood does the trick.

Gerry Rafferty - totally relaxed style of music which usually/hopefully reflects in my work.

I said in my previous post that I listen to everything from Transvision Vamp to Vivaldi, but current plays during painting are Ladies of the Canyon (Jonie Mitchel), Jenny sings Lennie (Jennifer Warnes with Leonard Cohen) and (Pieces of You) Jewel.

Today whilst struggling as a beginner with the intricacies of watercolour I had heard on the radio that wonderful version of 'Gaudete' by Steeleye Span, so, maybe it was reminiscent of a 'Sixties' laidback approach to everything, I dug out my old Maddie Prior/Steeleye span music. The effect was unbelieveable, my brush just flowed, perhaps for a short while I had been taken back to a long lost boldness of my youth, surrounded by the mellow tones of the divine Maddie and no, I was not smoking anything which might be related to that period.

Now that is going back a bit - we had the Steeleye span LP, with the cover picture that was made up of wavy lines, you had to look at it at eye level, flat to see it - hope I explained that OK. Funny you should mention that I was looking for something different to download to my Kindle Fire, never gave Steeleye a thought, might have to check out whats around.
