Artist of the Year - 2012

Description/Summary

Open to everyone and irrespective of age, ability, medium or subject matter. You don't have to be a professional artist or have years of painting experience to enter - all you need is a passion for painting!

The Artist of the Year 2012 will win £2000 - to include £1000 cash and £1000 worth of art materials, an engraved crystal goblet AND £500 worth of great art materials for the art club, group or school of your choice. It could be you... previous winners have included artists right across the board, from beginners, to juniors and professionals!

Prizes & Awards

Status Awards:
Prizes of £100 worth of art materials, and an engraved goblet, will also be awarded to the painting judged to be the best in the following sectors:

  • Professional
  • Amateur
  • Beginner, June Atherton Award (if you have been painting less than two years)
  • Young (16 to 25 years old at the time of entry)
  • Junior (up to 16 at the time of entry)
Category Awards:

  • Best Abstract or Experimental Art
  • Best Still Life
  • Best Flowers or Gardens
  • Best Landscape or Woodland Scene

SAA 20th Anniversary Award!
2012 marks 20 years of the SAA. In celebration of this we have 20 extra awards for the best interpretations of '20'. The best 20 entries will each receive £200 worth of art materials!

On show:
Closing date for entries is 24th February 2012. All entrants from the competition, including the chosen finalists, will be notified by 25th May. All winning entries will be exhibited on the SAA website and in Paint magazine. This year original paintings will not be required for exhibition.

There is no limit to the number of entries and all artwork must be recent (no earlier than 2010) unpublished work of the submitting artist. Please indicate if the work of another artist has been used as a source for your entry. If your entry is chosen your original work must be available for final judging.

How to Enter

Online

New for the 2012 competition, you can now enter online! Simply click on the 'Enter Competition' icon at the top of this page and follow the instructions from there.

E-mail

E-mail entries, are only open to SAA members and are acceptable in JPEG format no larger than 100kb per image. With only one picture per email. Please email to aoy@saa.co.uk with full details included in each covering e-mail. Mark the e-mail subject as AOY2012 with your status and painting subject. It should look like this in the email subject: 'AOY2012 Amateur Landscape or Woodland Scene'.

Entrants must determine their own status from Professional, Amateur, Beginner (painting for less than 2 years at time of entry), Young (16 to 25 at time of entry) and Junior (up to 16 at time of entry).

For postal entries, please supply all the information listed below and send your entries to SAA Artist of the Year 2012, PO Box 50, Newark, Notts, NG23 5GY, UK. Please do not enclose anything else with your entry.

IMPORTANT

Please ensure that each painting entry is clearly marked with:

- Full Artist name
- Full postal address
- Telephone number
- Membership Number. (if a member)
- Your Status (e.g. Professional, Amateur, Beginner, Young, Junior)
- Age (if under 25)
- Title of painting
- Medium (e.g. Watercolour, acrylic, etc)
- Category
- Size including frame in centimetres (cm)

Incomplete entries will be disqualified. All entries and artwork must be submitted as good quality photographs or colour photocopies (no larger than A3), original paintings cannot be accepted.

If you are not an SAA member please remember to enclose your payment (Non members £7.50 per entry and a Special Students price of only £3.50 per entry, students may only enter as Young or Junior). No responsibility will be taken for any entries and no entry will be returned, please keep a copy for your records.
