Ann lives in Snowdonia in North Wales. She runs short holiday courses throughout the summer months under the name "Brush-Strokes" and also teaches a regular class in her studio throughout the year. She works in all media and enjoys experimenting with new ideas and techniques.

Information

I grew up in London, where drawing and painting were my passion. However, after leaving school, these were hobbies rather than my career. I went to live in South Africa with my husband in the 1970's, and there I was taught oils and pastels by the sought-after Italian artist Carlo Sdoya. When my husband and I returned to the UK, I also took up watercolours, and we moved to Snowdonia in North Wales, where, as well as running painting holidays during the summer months, I run a regular Friday morning class in the studio, and demonstrate and give workshops to some of the local Art Societies and Clubs in Wales. My work is to be found in local galleries and exhibitions. I have also recently had some paintings accepted for exhibition at the Wykeham Gallery in Stockbridge, in Hampshire. I am an RSC for the Snowdonia Art Club, which meets in our studio once a month for painting and other activities.

I like working in series, exploring the same subject matter in different media, and also mixing the media to achieve effects.

Exhibitions

In 2010 I have a solo exhibition at Penrhyn Castle, near Bangor, in The Pickard Room, from 9 - 21 June, open every day except Tuesday. I will be on hand every day, demonstrating, and enjoy talking to visitors

Tuition

I run a number of short courses during the year in different media in our Brush-Strokes studio in Dolwyddelan, North Wales. I particularly enjoy creating the workshop atmosphere during these courses, where everyone works together and can share ideas and be inspired by each other as well as from my teaching. Working both in the studio and out on location, I encourage participants to experiment with different techniques and to discover ways of portraying the atmosphere of the subject in front of them.
