What to Paint Landscapes in Watercolour Book with Terry Harrison

You've got a shelf of instructional books, a jar full of brushes of every shape and size, all the colours under the sun and enough paper to last you a lifetime, but what are you going to paint? This, says Terry in his introduction, is the artist's equivalent of writer's block.

This innovative new book is Terry's attempt to break that log jam. The approach is not unlike the hugely successful Ready to Paint series, but includes more ideas and less-detailed instructions. The idea is that you already know how to paint, it's the what that you need. And so there are no fewer than 24 paintings, each with its own outline that you can trace down to give you the basic structure. Each comes with notes on brushwork and other techniques as well as a comprehensive palette. There are even suggestions for combining different elements from several paintings to create a whole new composition.

This isn't a substitute for going out and finding your own subjects, nor would you want it to be, but it is a splendid way of getting those creative juices to flow.
