If painting the sea seems like a daunting prospect to you - take heart, Terry Harrison's step-by-step guide reveals some really simple and effective methods for creating stunning watercolour paintings.
Using tried and tested techniques, Terry creates three very different paintings, starting with a dramatic scene with crashing waves breaking over rocks, followed by a tranquil, sunlit lighthouse and finally a colourful sunset, casting a gleam on the waves as they break onto the shore.
In each project, you will learn where to make effective use of masking fluid to create the white wisps of breakers, the dramatic spray spilling over the rocks and to create the path of the setting sun's gleam, before moving on to the different skies which will form the backdrop of each picture, the rocks and finally, the sea itself. Terry reveals his different techniques for creating clouds, rocks and waves - how to mix and apply the subtle colours, how to change the mood with the use of colour, light and shade; which brushes to choose, and how to manipulate them to create special effects, how to lift out the paint with tissue paper and add texture with the use of a credit card. His philosophy is to keep things simple, and he does that beautifully!
