Carole Massey packs more into this relatively compact guide than many longer books manage.
Her no-nonsense approach inspires confidence and she deals concisely with basic techniques as well as the all-important structure of the human head, including the eyes/nose triangle which is the main focus of how we recognise people.
Carole also includes three short demonstrations that showcase a variety of facial types, both male and female. These complement the more technical sections of the book and show you how the detail work is brought together, but it's nice not to have the feeling that you're working through endless exercises on people you've never seen before, and this is a welcome change from the conventional approach.
This imaginative book works as both a primer and a masterclass and has appeal for artists of all levels of ability.
