Biography
I was born in 1974 and have lived in Worcestershire all my life.
As a young girl I was impressed with all the mayoral portraits that hung in my local town hall and wanted to be as good as the greats when I was older, I loved botanical studies and enjoyed painting wildflowers, something I still do that suppliments my interest in botany and mycology.
I always wanted to be a scientist growing up but everyone said I should put my artistic talents first and think I must be the only artist who met family disapproval when I gave up art for a while to study law!...I always thought that worked the other way round!
I was sorely disappointed with the level of art education I recieved through my formative years but at 24 I began to study with the OCA and have since joined the SAA.
I have also studied art and Rennaisance history through the OU
At the moment I am going through an experimental time in my work and opening to new mediums and ideas, I am currently experimenting with coloured pencil techniques and trying new surfaces and mediums which is a change from my usual oils
I sell private commissions and have sold paintings in the US such as pet portraits and bespokes usually on the theme of narrowboats and canals.
I like many of the old masters. I have a great interest in Egyptian and ancient art and would love to study more in the field of ancient cave painting. My own personal canon of favourites range from the Lascaux cave painters through to Delacroix and Freidrich through to Ernst and Spencer...oh yes and I love a bit of Gilbert and George on the sly:-0 !!
