Biography

I always loved drawing and when I was 12, my parents bought me an oil painting set. That was the start of my painting career. I was put off art at school because I just could not get on with the art teacher, so instead I did woodwork. Art at college only lasted a few months, as again I did not agree with the way art was being taught.

I have always loved the old masters, and I give credit to these as I learnt more from studying and copying their work than I did anywhere else. Obviously I have my own style and technique now.

By 19 I had work accepted at exhibitions in London and two of my paintings were bought by an art publisher. I had no idea what became of these paintings until one day whilst watching Only Fools and Horses, I spotted one of my paintings on the wall of the Trotter's flat. Since then, it has been spotted in many episodes.

I never go anywhere without a camera and I take hundreds and hundreds of photos for future reference.

Over the years I have accepted a large number of people and pet portraits, pubs, hotels and private homes, some of which can be viewed on my website www.toullaart.co.uk
