I believe that misunderstanding a key concept frequently prevents an aspiring artist from developing their skills beyond a certain level or may indeed cause them to abandon their creative hopes in frustration. I am known for my clear and jargon-free presentation style and for getting my message across in a friendly, supportive, non-patronising & lively manner. I conduct workshops, courses, demonstrations and presentations on various mediums and subjects including sketching, drawing, watercolour, watersoluble pencil & mixed media.
I regularly tutor courses, creative breaks and workshops at Northern College,Wentworth Castle in South Yorkshire and the Stable Gallery, Old Sleningford, near Ripon as well as several weekly classes for York Adult & Community Education and in conjunction with York Art & Framing at The Farmer's Cart, Towthorpe and other groups in locations around York.
Along with demos and Skill sessions for Art Groups (on such subjects as Colour Mixing, Perspective, Tone, Drawing People and so on), my two-day Workshops & Foundation Skills courses on Drawing or Sketching or Watercolour or Acrylics or Watersoluble Pencils etc are designed to help students gain a grounding of the principles underlying the techniques used.
Sessions can be tailored and run at your location (one-on-one private tuition sessions are also available) so please contact me to discuss your requirements. I holds a First class BA (Hons) and a Masters degree, both in Fine Art painting, plus a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education).

Biography
I thoroughly enjoy encouraging others to create and I tutor various art workshops and courses for beginner to experienced as well as private tuition sessions for individuals. Besides running various workshops, creative breaks and independent classes I also teach several regular weekly adult classes around the York area. I also give illustrated talks to (art and non-art) groups on various topics including creativity and innovation, art appreciation and different art techniques. Contact me for availability and rates.
I have sketched, drawn and painted throughout my life and since the age of 40 have undertaken numerous art courses achieving a Distinction on the Foundation Course in Art & Design plus a First Class Honours BA and an MA, both in Fine Art(Painting). I also hold a PGCE for Post-Compulsory Education & Training (PCET) and am a member of the Institute for Learning. My work has been commissioned and exhibited widely and is held in private collections from Philadelphia to New Zealand.
